Top Fuel Enterprises are pleased to announce that the management has been reconstructed and from the start of the 07/08 drag racing season, Steve Zahorodny & Tim Watkins will be running Taupo International Dragway (formerly Lakeside International Dragway or L.I.D.).

The past two seasons have been a huge learning curve for those involved with LID, and we now look to the future of drag racing in Taupo as Top Fuel Enterprises and Taupo International Dragway takes shape. We thank in advance the staff, volunteers, racers and crew that will support us this coming season, and the seasons to come. We ask everyone to be patient during this transition period.

The team from Fram Autolite Dragway are combining with Top Fuel Enterprises and NZDRA to ensure that the SummerNationals, (fourth round of the NZDRA National Series) to be held on January 2nd, 2008 are as successful as they can be.  Top Fuel Enterprises has committed to the laying down of compatible cabling for the use of the Compulink Timing System, kindly loaned and operated by Fram Autolite Dragway staff.

In addition to the race control side of things, we can't leave out the mention of the all important track preparation, and in this instance Plank Sherwin is heading our way to lay down the sticky stuff.  Scrutineer Ian (Lem) Wenzlick has stepped up to the plate, and will be the official starter for Taupo International Dragway for the next few meetings, as our resident starter Tony Bennis has had to pull out due to health reasons - we all hope you get better soon, Tony!  Many of you will remember Lem from Champion (now Fram Autolite) Dragway Competition Scrutineering days, and also as one half of the 'RaceRock' Pontiac team of Wenzlick & Blomsaat.  Lem has already performed starters duties at the Big Three battle event held at the end of November and has taken to the position like a duck to water.

This site will be were all event, racer and spectator information will be posted, including any cancellations.  No cancellations will be done by phone, or word of mouth at this time.  We understand that there has been some confusion as to wether or not drag racing events will be happening at Taupo International Dragway, and this website has been created to dispel any and all rumors that have been in circulation.  The previous LID website is not being used by Taupo International Dragway.  In addition to the site, if anyone has any queries, comments or questions, these can be directed to:

The Taupo International Dragway season kicked off with the "Big Three" battle - Ford vs GM vs Mopar held on 25th November 2007.   Although small race fields were in attendance, this meeting went without a hitch.   Street cars and Competition vehicles vied hard to get into the winners circle, and all results have been posted on our website, along with links to Taupo Rod & Custom Clubs site, where photo's have been posted up.

SUMMER NATIONALS - 2 January 2008

Fourth Round of the NZDRA National Series

Come see the tarmac beg for mercy!!

Street cars to five second Top Alcohol Funny Cars, and all of your favorite cars and motorcycles.  Spectators come and support your favorite drivers and riders battle it out for the ultimate supremacy of Summer Nationals Champion in their division.  All NZDRA classes will be run, including the ground-pounding Top Alcohol and Top Doorslammer divisions, Competition Drag Bike, Sport Compact down to the boys and girls that compete in the Junior Dragster division.  We can confirm at this time that there are at least 10 Top Alcohol cars heading to Taupo for this event!  Top Fuel Enterprises director Steve Zahorodny has been working tirelessly on this event, and has arranged some awesome attractions and presentations to ensure that drag racing at Taupo International Dragway is a thrilling and exciting day out for the whole family.
