Enter Richard Lay with his 1996 Honda Civic, he approached us to design and build a knockout install with great SQ qualities and also be able to enter in the DB Drag Racing arena. After a few discussions he was adament that he did not want to have a backseat and wanted the whole of the boot and backseat area filled with the audio system.  | We started off fitting the Alpine AV system in the front and running the cabling through to the car, we then removed the front doors and ran new cables through for the new JBL 6" Power Speakers. To make these speakers perform to there potential we fitted deadlining to both of the front doors (this is a must if you want to have great bass response out of front doors and also to stop the rattles). Fitted to the rear of the car is a 7" drop down TFT Screen which shows you what disc is playing when on display from the rear end. |

 | We are now onto building the sub-box which was housing 4x JBL GT4 12" sub woofers, this was going to be a task as the box was set to be designed around a bandpass chamber. This box was very difficult to build as all of our designs so far had been made to be removable with ease. Once we had prefitted the box several times we then had to make up side panels from the window to the box inside, which involved hours of fibreglassing, bogging and sanding. The top of the bandpass box was made of twenty mil perspex (reason being so you could see into the box and see its workings). On top of the box we etched in the JBL logo. |
On the bottom of the box we laid a 3 mil gold mirror, thus giving a double reflection of the subs. The box sides were lined with carbon fibre and the face of the subs were as well. Instead of using conventional ports we made ours out of perspex to make it more appealing to the eye, and were able to tune the car to the specified frequency. To run these subs we fitted behind the passenger and drivers seats a JBL BP1200 digital power amplifier which would produce 350 watts RMS into the four JBL 12's. Richards requirements for bass were lower than anyone else we have dealt with and was tuned down to 38 hertz. In the Db Drag competition he got a SPL of 143.5 which was a very good score for the hertz. |  |

Beside the JBL Amp we fitted a power inverter to run his Sony Playstation along side it. On the opposite side of the JBL Amp we fitted a Alpine 6 disc changer. In the rear of the vehicle we fitted a JBL GTO75.4 to run the front speakers which would give him 50 RMS. Underneath the box a gel cell battery was also fitted thus supplying more current to his stereo system. Total hours to completion of the job - 240!. Click HERE to see more images of this car. |
